統計数理研究所教授、元総合研究大学院大学教授。1970年統計数理研究所に入所。1973年から赤池弘次教授に師事。赤池博士の指導のもと時系列解析の研究を始める。以後非線形時系列解析、特に非線形時系列モデルと連続時間ダイナミックモデル(確率過程モデル、非線形力学系モデル等)の研究に従事。 2008年統計数理研究所と総合研究大学院大学を退職後執筆活動に専念。代表的著書に “Time Series Modeling of Neuroscience Data” (CRC Press)
の他、「時系列論」(放送大学出版、共著)、「時系列解析の方法」(朝倉書店、共著)

統計学博士(1973年)
1973年、マンチェスター大学PhD取得後、マンチェスター大学数学科リサーチアシスタント。M.B.Priestley教授らの時系列研究グループに属し、当時客員教授として訪英中の統計数理研究所の赤池弘次博士の研究助手を勤める。当時開発されたばかりのTIMSACパッケージをマンチェスター大学計算センターに実装し、英国全土に紹介する。1974年から1982年までマンチェスター大学常勤講師として研究活動を続けた後、研究拠点を日本に移し慶応大学数理工学科非常勤講師、上智大学助教授を経て、1994年以降上智大学国際教養学部教授。
2015年上智大学名誉教授。

In 1973, Toyoda started working on the development of automobile-engines and motorcycle-engines control systems at Nikki Co., Ltd. and Honda R&D Co., Ltd. Since 1983, he has been engaged in the development of advanced control systems for fossil fuel-fired power plants at Kyuden Technosystems Corporation and ABB Bailey Japan Co., Ltd. Using his experience of research and development of various innovative products for 27 years, he joined Niihama National College of Technology (NNCT) as a professor of the Mechanical Engineering department in 2002.  After retiring from NNCT in 2013, he has founded N-TIMSAC Associates together with Dr. Tohru Ozaki and Dr. Valerie Haggan-Ozaki.His interests are the applications of model-based predictive control theory and the time series analysis approach to energy saving and environmental protection for various industrial processes.

Ozaki started working in Prof. Akaike’s laboratory at the Institute of Statistical Mathematics (ISM) in 1973, where he was trained by Prof. Akaike as a time series analysis specialist. He has been involved in many research projects using nonlinear time series analysis, stochastic processes, and nonlinear dynamical systems applied to neuroscience, control engineering, and financial engineering, not only at ISM but also at many other universities and research institutes (such as Australian National University, University of Manchester, University of Minnesota, Cuban Neuroscience Center, University of Montreal etc.) as a visiting professor or visiting researcher. He has been promoting and applying the “innovation approach” to time series analysis, a methodology for analyzing non-linear and/or non-Gaussian time series data in many application fields in sciences and engineering. He is known as the author of the book, “Time Series Modeling of Neuroscience Data”, CRC Press, 2008.

Haggan-Ozaki began her career as a time series analyst working in collaboration with Prof. Priestley and his group, where she was research assistant to Prof. Hirotugu Akaike, then visiting UMIST to work on dimensionality reduction for multivariate time series.  One of her main projects was to introduce the TIMSAC time series computer package to UK researchers through the University of Manchester Regional Computer Centre.  In 1974 she became a lecturer of statistics in the Mathematics Department of UMIST.Moving her research base to Tokyo, Japan in 1982, she took lecturing posts at Keio University and Sophia University, before becoming an Associate Professor of Sophia University in 1987.  In 1994, she became Professor of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty Liberal Arts, Sophia University, retiring in 2014 and becoming Emeritus Professor of Sophia University in 2015.  She has worked on time series related research projects over a range of medical, engineering and finance issues.

火力発電プラント用ボイラ制御への現代制御理論の適用にあたり、蒸気温度制御用分散型ディジタル演算制御装置(DCS)版TIMSAC搭載のACORD開発をはじめとし、DCS版モデル規範型適応制御MRACSの蒸気温度への適用を実現。2002年から脱硝制御改善のための非線形予測モデル制御NPC等の適用研究に従事し成功に導いた。

In applying the modern control theory to boiler control for thermal power plants, Mr.Shioya has engaged in product development of the distributed digital control system (DCS) version of TIMSAC for steam temperature control and also in development of the model reference adaptive control system (MRACS) . From 2002 to 2006, he has engaged in development of the nonlinear-model predictive control system to improve the deNOx control and led to success.

Dr.Torikai has developed high-voltage distribution line transport system, failure detection and diagnosis method of internal combustion power generator using pattern recognition theory, estimation method of the state of charge of battery based on time series model. He has also developed the method which can determine the transmission line accident cause and developed the method which shows distribution system accident point location. Engaged in research on statistical identification and predictive control of deNOx control processes since 2010.
